In L’Art de l’Équilibre, Belgian artist Hildegarde Handsaeme brings three stylized female figures into a closely interlocking composition. Rounded faces, elongated necks and angular silhouettes form a visual balance in which each figure remains distinct while belonging to a shared whole.
Layered blues provide depth behind luminous areas of white and ecru. Dark, curved shapes frame the faces, while fine lines trace their profiles with precision. Two small yellow accents in the upper figure’s eyes interrupt the restrained palette, drawing the gaze upward and introducing a playful tension.
The painting’s balance emerges through asymmetry: differing heights, overlapping forms and repeated curves guide the eye across the canvas. Figurative presence and geometric structure become inseparable, suggesting both individuality and connection.
With its clear contours and measured use of colour, L’Art de l’Équilibre invites reflection on balance as a relationship between distinct elements, rather than perfect symmetry.
