About the artist
Hildegarde Handsaeme is a Belgian artist, born in Kortrijk. For more than three decades she has reduced the female form to its most essential lines. She works in acrylic and black ink, on canvas and on paper, looking for a balance between strength and serenity: flowing contours, geometric harmony, a few precisely placed lines. Her work does not tell a story; it invites quiet contemplation. Self-taught, she has followed her own path since the early 1990s. Her work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels, and is held in private collections in Europe, the United States and Asia.
