I am Hildegarde Handsaeme, a Belgian contemporary artist born in Kortrijk. For over three decades, I have been dedicated to minimalist and symbolic art, reducing the female form to its most essential lines. My work seeks a delicate balance between strength and serenity, using flowing contours and geometric harmony to express timeless femininity.

I primarily work with acrylic paint and ink on paper or canvas. Each piece is a visual exploration of womanhood, emotional stillness and inner clarity, created with just a few precisely placed lines.
As a self-taught artist I have created more than 200 works, primarily paintings and drawings, and have followed my own path since the early 1990s, unaffected by academic trends. My work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels, and featured in publications including Resident Magazine New York, France 24 and Magzoid Magazine (UAE). It is held in private collections in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, the United States, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

Hildegarde Handsaeme is a Belgian visual artist, based in Overijse, near Brussels. Over several decades, she has developed a personal visual language centred on the feminine figure, combining fluid lines with geometric structure. ARTISTIC PRACTICE Her practice encompasses acrylic painting on canvas and ink drawing on paper, from intimate works to large compositions. Balance, human connection and the relationship between figure and space are recurring concerns. Her recent drawings use permanent pigment ink on heavyweight fine art paper. INTERNATIONAL COLLECTIONS Her paintings and drawings are held in private collections in Belgium and abroad. Recent acquisitions include works collected in the United Kingdom and the United States, alongside a large commissioned painting for a private collector in Miami.
